In January 2006 a new meuseum and theme park for “Hyakunin Isshu”, a japanese traditional cardgame opened in Arashiyama, Kyoto.
Basically Hyakunin Isshu is a poem collection, but has been played as a cardgame using card deck. 100 cards are spread out on the floor. The reader reads one of 100 poems. The players try to be the first one to grab the card matching to the poem. Players should try to memorize all hundred poems so that they can grab the cardquickly after hearing the very first part of each poem.
The chairman of Nintendo built this museum and visitors can play the digital game of Hyakunin Isshu. Nintendo produced DS software for it, too.

マルチメディアマガジン『STUDIO VOICE』（INFASパブリケーションズ）の2007年6月号に、アブストラクトゲームの記事が掲載された。半ページではあるが、ギプフプロジェクトの全6作の写真が掲載されている。
『STUDIO VOICE』では、2007年1月号でもボードゲームが紹介しているが、ビジュアル面を大事にする同誌にとって、ヨーロッパ産のボードゲームの洗練されたデザインは新鮮に移るのかもしれない。
今回紹介されたギプフプロジェクトの作品群は、アブストラクトゲームらしく一見すると地味なコンポーネントだが、写真を並べると白と黒のコントラストが独特の美しさをもっていることに気づく。全部揃えてみたくなるような誘惑につい駆られてしまう。
もちろん見かけだけではなく内容も一級品。シリーズ6作のうち4作までがドイツ年間ゲーム大賞でノミネートされたり、推薦リストに入ったりしているのだ。2人用のアブストラクトゲームを敬遠している人は、ぜひ1つお試しを。
